Shirin Sharmin takes oath as MP

Speaker Shirin Charmin Chaudhury has taken her oath as the MP from Rangpur-6 in the 10th Parliament. Being the Speaker of the House, Chaudhury administered the oath by herself on Wednesday in Parliament. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present during the ceremony. Chaudhury, elected MP without a contest in the by-polls, has been nominated as the Speaker for the new Parliament by the ruling party. According to the rules of business, the first session of new Parliament will elect the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. Chaudhury is the first woman Speaker in Bangladesh, according to bdnews24.com.
