Shirin to be declared elected today

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is all set to emerge as the uncontested winner in Rangpur-6 constituency today (Tuesday) once the Election Commission is done with screening nominations. The commission has, in fact, only one set of nomination papers to examine, as there are no other candidates other than Chaudhury contesting from this constituency. Election Commissioner Abu Hafiz told bdnews24.com that a gazette to this effect would also be published on the same day. He said she would be declared elected immediately after expiry of the deadline for scrutiny of nomination at 5pm on Tuesday. The publishing of the gazette would follow the declaration.
