Sholakia holds country\\\'s biggest Eid Jamaat

The biggest Eid-ul-Azha Jamaat (congregation) of Bangladesh was held on Friday at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila. It was the 188th Eid Jammat. Kishoreganj district administration and Eidgah Management Committee had made all arrangement to hold the Jamaat in a smooth and peaceful atmosphere. About 0.4 million (four lakh) Musallis joined Friday’s Eid Jamaat, led by Moulana Farid Uddin Masud. Eid-ul-Azha, the festival of quarbani or sacrifice is being observed in Kishoreganj as elsewhere in the country with religious fervour and solemnity. Today's Eid Jamaat began around at 9.00am. After the Jamaat, a special Munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for peace, development and welfare of the people of Bangladesh as well as Muslim Ummah. Superintendent of Police, Kishoreganj, M Anwar Hossain Khan said district administration had taken tough security arrangements to hold the Eid Jamaat in a peaceful manner. Several hundred police personnel and its crime busting unit Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were deployed in and around the 7 acres (28,000 m2) Eidgah (ground), situated on the bank of Narasunda River in Kishoreganj municipal area, to maintain law and order during the prayers, he said. The law-enforcers were equipped with metal detectors, mine detectors and close circuit cameras. Medical teams and fire service and civil defence teams were also kept alert during the prayers. Special trains have been introduced for easy journey of the devotees. The first Eid jamaat on Sholakia Eidgha Maidan was held in 1828 with 1,25,000 devotees offering the prayers there.
