A man with suspected link to a robbery incident at MP Dabirul Islam's house in Thakurgaon has died in a reported shootout with police, reports bdnews24.com.
The shootout took place in Jagannathpur area of the district on Monday night, said Farhat Ahmed, superintendent of police (SP) in the district. In a media briefing on Tuesday, the SP said the man was about 30 years old.
"We are yet to know the name of the man, but we can confirm that he was involved in the robbery at the MP's house," he added.
On a tip-off, the police raided Haripukur area where some of the suspected robbers were hiding, said Ahmed.
"Sensing the presence of policemen, the robbers opened fire forcing them to retaliate. One robber was hit by bullet in the gunfight and the rest fled the scene," he said. The fatally injured man was taken to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Four DB police officers injured in the gunfight underwent treatment in hospital.
Weapons were recovered from the scene.
On March 13, a gang of masked armed robbers stormed the MP’s house and looted gold ornaments holding the MP's wife, housekeeper and guard at gunpoint in a predawn heist.
