Left arm pacer Shoriful Islam left Dhaka for St Lucia to join Bangladesh squad for the second Test match against the West Indies, starting on June 24 (Friday), report agencies.
The 21-year-old has played four Tests for Bangladesh since making his debut in April 2021.
Shoriful had recently recovered from the injury which he sustained during the Chattogram Test against Sri Lanka last month.
He was practising to regain his form in Bangladesh Tigers camp when the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon informed him about his inclusion for the second Test in West Indies.
Shoriful said he is extremely excited to have been called up in the team again.
"Last night, I knew about my inclusion in the squad when Papon Sir (Nazmul Hassan Papon) called me and said that I am included in the Test team. So I was mentally prepared," the pacer said in the city on Monday.
"I am really excited because it was my dream to play Test match on West Indies soil. I have seen the first Test and got an idea where to bowl in Caribbean condition to be successful."
Bangladesh trail the series 0-1 after losing the first Test in Antigua by 7 wickets.
For Bangladeshi pace bowlers bowling with Duke balls has remained a major challenge considering none of their current crop of cricketers have played with it before the opening Test in Antigua.
"I have heard a lot of things about Dukes balls but still have not touched it. When I will reach there hopefully I will get the chance to have a look at the ball (Dukes) and I am very excited," Shoriful told reporters at the BCB academy in the city.
"I was very keen to play the Test in West Indies and let's see what happens. I am feeling well (after recovering from injury) and I feel that I am in a good state at the moment.
"No one wants to get injured and after picking up an injury, naturally I feel bad when I am doing the rehabilitation because everyone wants to be playing and missing matches certainly hurts and at that point it really feels bad and when I make a comeback it always gives me a good feeling,'' he added.
Returning Test captain Shakib Al Hasan was pleased with the performance of his pace unit despite being humbled by the West Indies at Antigua as they managed to put some pressure on the host unlike the past when the pacers were considered to play second fiddle.
"Naturally when someone like Shakib bhai says good thing about pacers it only inspires us," said Shoriful. "I have not played there but what I have seen is that if the ball is pitched in the right area there is an advantage and so I will try to maintain the right line and length," he concluded.
