Short order needed on verdict on Kamaruzzaman

Sunday, 9 November 2014

Law Minister Anisul Huq said on Saturday that at least a short order of the Appellate Division verdict would be needed in executing the death sentence of Jamaat leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, reports BSS.
The minister, also an eminent jurist, came up with the observations while talking to journalists after attending a publication ceremony of a property registration manual at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
Presided over by Mohammad Shahidul Haque, secretary of Legislation and Parliamentary Division, the function was also addressed by Law and Justice Division Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque, and IG Registration Khan Abdul Mannan, among others.
"I think until a short order of the verdict given by the Appellate Division reaches the jail authority, the sentence cannot be executed. Because we want to go through all the official formalities in executing the verdict," Anisul said.
"Jail authority did not ask him (Kamaruzzaman) officially till today about the mercy petition. But he has been informed that his appeal has been rejected by the Appellate Division. His lawyers and family members might have informed him of the matter," the minister added.
