Shortage of Balam books in Nilphamari registry offices

NILPHAMARI, Jun 30: Shortage of Volume Books alias Balam Books to duplicate the purchase and sale deeds is prevailing for nearly two years in the sub registry offices in Nilphamari district. Writers of purchase and sale deeds need to duplicate the main deeds in the record register and the original is handed over to land purchaser.
When contacted District Register Nilphamari Khalilur Rahman and Sub-Register sadar upazila Ananda Brahman said supply of volume books remains suspended from the month of June 2012. While contacted secretary of Nilphamari sadar upazila Deed Writer Association Kamrul Islam said up to June 2011 a total of 11000 purchase deeds were accomplished out of which 2700 deeds were duplicated and the rest remains to be done. More than 350000 purchase deeds still remains to be recorded in the volume. There are 300 deed writers in Nilphamari district who remain in a no-work-no-pay situation.
When contacted Abdul Wahed Sarker, President Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry said he purchased land in September 4, 2011 and registered in Nilphamari sub register office but he is still waiting for the original deed which he needed to provide to the bank as collateral for bank loan.
