RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, May 9: Academic activities of Rajshahi University (RU) are being hampered for scarcity of adequate classrooms, teachers' chambers, seminar rooms and laboratory. The rooms in the university are too small to accommodate the students. As a result most of the classrooms remain overcrowded. Some students have to attend classes standing inside the rooms. As estimate shows that the number of students under Arts and Social Science faculties is around 14,000. There are nearly 320 teachers in 19 departments under these faculties. But there are only 39 class rooms, 133 teachers' chambers, 19 seminar rooms and 19 office rooms. There is no common room, laboratory room for the students of these departments. Classes of three departments under Social Science faculty are held in Business Studies building. Another class is held at arts and crafts building. A total of three departments of science faculty like Population and Human Rights Department, Pharmacy Department and Material Science Department have also been facing these problems for long. The academic activities of the university are also being badly hampered due to opening of new subjects every year without infrastructural arrangements. These newly introduced departments do not have own buildings, class rooms, and seminar room and other facilities. RUET prohibited using campus to ASC students Another report adds : The authority of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) prohibited using its road to the teachers and students of Agroni School and College (ASC) to avert further clashes that is located in the university campus area. Sources said that Saturday the university authority sent a letter to the principal of ASC in this regard. Earlier at least 22 local people and students of both institutions including four photojournalists were injured in a day-long sequel of clashes over a silly matter on February 23 between the students of RUET and Agrani School and College. Tohura Khatun, principal of ASC confirmed the matter to the newsmen.
