Shortage of doctors hampers treatment in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Oct 28: A large number of doctors and specialists posts are lying vacant in all hospitals of Joypurhat district for a long time. Patients of different areas of the district are being deprived of proper medical services.
About 68 of doctors are vacant when the sanction was for 112 posts 23 specialist doctors posts are vacant out of 38 post, it is learnt.
The vacant posts include 14 posts out of 42 with 4 specialist in District Modern Hospital, 7 posts out of 9 with 4 specialists in Panchbibi health complex, 15 out of 20 with 6 specialist in Akkelpur Upazila health complex, 16 out 20 with 8 specialists in Kalai Upazila health complex. Borides, all 12 posts out 12 are vacant in 12 sub health centres in the district.
The manpower shortage in civil surgeon office is yet another cause of low medical services. In some of the medical complexes doctors do not attend hospitals in time. As a result emergency patients do not get timely attention. Sometimes emergency patients are forced to move to other hospitals
On visiting some medical complexes most of the patients told the FE correspondent that they do not get proper treatment from hospitals due to shortage of doctors and other staff members.
