Show cause notice served to 11 RUET students

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Apr 21: The authority of the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) served show cause notice to its11 students over the February 23 incident. RUET reopened on April 17 amid tight security after 54 days of unscheduled closure following the clash between the university students and local people on February 23 noon that left about 22 injured. The show cause served to the students were Reza of fourth year student, Sharif of second year and Jony of third year of Civil Department, Foysal of Computer Science, Rose of Industrial Product Engineering Department, Nadir and Nayon of fourth year and Munna, Shamim, Nabin and Pavel of Mechanical Department respectively, RUET sources said. The authorities took the decision in an emergency syndicate meeting on Sunday evening. Prof Tarafdar gets science award Another report adds: Prof Dr Tofazzol Hossain Tarafdar, a teacher of the Chemistry Department and also dean of Science Faculty of the Rajshahi Universality (RU) has been selected for gold medal of Bangladesh Science Academy award 2009. University sources said he has been selected for the award for his remarkable contribution to widen and research activities in science in the national perspective. In 1991, he received the University Grants Commission (UGC) award for fundamental research activities. He joined the Chemistry Department of RU as a lecturer in 1974.
