'Showcase Bangladesh 2010' begins in KL Jan 8

Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) is set to organize 'Showcase Bangladesh 2010', a three-day mega exhibition in Kuala Lumpur from January 8.
The mega show, first of its kind in Malaysia, is being organized at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Kuala Lumpur, aiming to project Bangladesh and promote its potentials for enhancing trade between the two countries as well as to highlight the opportunities for Malaysian investment in Bangladesh.
"We intend to bridge the gap in trade between the two friendly countries," Secretary General of BMCCI and Chief Coordinator of the event Syed Moazzam Hossain said.
Mr Hossain also claimed that the three-day trade show is set to become the most exciting event in Kuala Lumpur. He was addressing the media at a press conference Monday to announce the mega show at a city hotel.
In collaboration with the Bangladesh High Commission- Malaysia, the 'Showcase Bangladesh-2010' is being supported by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), Malaysian South-South Association (MASSA), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysia Industrial Development Authority (MIDA).
The focal point of the event will be the exhibition of various products and service of Bangladesh in total 60 allocated stalls. Participants in the fair include representatives of RMG, ceramics, leather products, food, energy, tourism, handicrafts industries and banks.
Addressing at the press conference, Mr Hossain said the event would be a premier off-shore initiative of the private sector business in Bangladesh, is also intended to urge for relief in tariff barriers in Malaysia that impedes export of RMG, ceramics, home textiles and consumer products from Bangladesh to Malaysia.
"It is assumed that the event will help facilitate acceleration of trade and economic ties between the two countries and will serve as an effective groundwork for strengthening bilateral relations," he added.
Malaysia is the sixth largest investor in Bangladesh in various sectors amounting US$ 1.34 million. Bangladesh exports goods worth US$ 31.28 million to Malaysia in 2008-09 while import goods from that country worth US$ 691.20 million.
The mega event would also include a number of high-profile seminars, gala dinner-cum-cultural shows. Founder of modern Malaysia Dr Mahathir Mohammad would attend the cultural night on January 09 as chief guest.
Muhammad Faruk Khan, Commerce Minister of Bangladesh will attend the inaugural session, BMCCI source added.
United Commercial Bank Limited (UCBL) is the Platinum Sponsor of the Showcase Bangladesh 2010. Sime Darby Group Berhad, a renowned financial institution in Malaysia, is the Silver Sponsor of the show. Gala dinner of the event is hosted by Eastern Bank Limited, Bangladesh.
