Shrimps destroyed for selling in unhygienic condition

BAGERHAT, Oct 4 (BSS): District Taskforce committee destroyed 60 kilogrammes of exportable shrimps worth about Tk 50,000 for selling those in an unhygienic condition at Signboard Bazar in the district Monday.
The government has banned selling of exportable shrimps in the local markets in order to maintain the European Union (EU) standard of exportable shrimps, sources said.
The Taskforce committee has been conducting drives to ensure the quality of shrimps, the sources added.
Acting on secret information, the members of the committee raided the depot of one Moksed Ali at Signboard Bazar Monday afternoon and seized 60 kilogrammes of headless shrimps when those were being sold in an unhygienic condition.
Later, they destroyed the seized shrimps.
During the drive senior fisheries officer SM Shahidul Islam, assistant fisheries officer Bipul Krishna Pal and District Depot Owners Association President Ilyas Ahmed Babul were present.
