Shun divisive politics: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called upon all on Monday to shun divisive politics for the sake of democracy and the welfare of the people.
"A division has been created unfortunately in Bangladesh. We should come out from ‘politics of division’ and work for establishing democracy and for the welfare of the country's people," he told the media after paying tributes to Haidar Akbar Khan Rono, adviser of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
"This man (Haidar Akbar Khan Ronu) had struggled throughout his life for bringing about change in society and for ensuring welfare of the country, people, farmers and working-class people. His departure has created a large vacuum," Mr Fakhrul said.
"As a freedom fighter and movement organiser, he couldn't see the Bangladesh unfortunately what he had wanted (to see). We pray for the salvation of his departed soul," he continued.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam on behalf of his party's chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting chairman Tarique Rahman and also his party expressed deep condolence and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members of Ronu.
Convener of Dhaka south BNP Abdus Salam, vice-chairman Barkatullah Bulu, party chairperson's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and party's assistant secretary for climate affairs Mostafizur Rahman Babu were present, among others.
