The BNP has claimed success with Thursday's shutdown it called in protest against the attack on chairperson's adviser Reaz Rahman, reports bdnews24.com.
In a statement Thursday, Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi asked the party activists to carry on with the countrywide transport blockade which started on January 6.
"On behalf of the BNP, I congratulate the people on making the 12-hour shutdown a success. I also call on to carry on with the blockade until victory," reads the statement.
Amid its indefinite blockade, the BNP-led alliance had called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown for Thursday after Reaz Rahman was shot Tuesday night. Later, it shortened the duration to 12 hours.
Meanwhile, the central office of BNP at Naya Paltan was surrounded by police on Thursday. No activists or leaders were seen there.
Public transports were plying the streets in Dhaka with train communications being normal.
Long-route bus service was, however, suspended from the inter-district bus terminals in Dhaka.
No major incidents of violence were reported from Dhaka.
