Shutting down air coolers

Tuesday, 6 April 2010

The energy administration, through a notification, now wants the public to shut down all cooling units from 6pm to 11pm when the heat is at its peak. Thanks for another gimmick, in addition to "staggered timings, DST (now defunct)" etcetera.
There is a proverb in Bangla, "Aponi Achori Por-Ke Shikhao" which means practice first before preaching. So my question is, is this measure also applicable to the President, Prime Minister, Ministers, Speaker, MPs, Energy Advisor, and the bureaucrats of the power sector, who do not pay any tax to the government? If not, why should a section of the poor tax payers and the general public only have to bear the brunt for the failure of the administration?
This notice, being a discriminatory one, does not have any legal basis. The Government should concentrate now on the energy issue on a war footing and take short, medium and long term measures to improve the situation without gimmicks. Please leave aside all other issues for the time being!
For God's sake please prioritise the issues and concentrate on the ones that need immediate solutions. Simply blaming the previous governments will not help.
