FE Report
Owners of sick industries, seeking Prime Minister's intervention, Monday urged the government to withdraw cases filed against 264 such units. They also urged the government to pay their 'over-due loan' from incentive package of Tk 70 billion, which was allocated in 2009-10 and 20010-11 budget. Even they suggested that the government should accept 'bail-out and exit' process for resolving the problem of the industry. Bangladesh Sick Industries Association placed the demands at a press conference at National Press Club in the city. The organisation expressed the hope that the government would resolve the crisis of sick industries through the executive order. Chowdhury Mohammad Ishaq, president of the association, urged the government to formulate 'Bangladesh Sick Industry Act-2011' immediately according to the provision of the Industrial Policy 2010. He said the government selected 264 industrial units as sick industries in 2010, but it is yet to take any initiative to resolve the problem. Association leaders Khaja Uddin Bhuiyan, Sirajul Islam, Rashida Akhter Chowdhury, Rafiqul Haque Akanda and Abdul Matin, among others, were present in the press conference.
