Siddiqur Rahman new BGMEA President

Siddiqur Rahman is taking charge of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) from outgoing president Atiqul Islam in a compromise deal.
Rahman and the other members of the Board of Directors will take over in the Annual General Meeting on Sep 22, according to a media statement issued Wednesday by Election Board Chairman Jahangir Alamin.
The balloting was slated for Sep 8 but it did not take place as the contenders, Sammilito Parishad and Forum, decided to split the term of presidency instead of fighting it out.
Sterling Denims Ltd Managing Director Rahman from the Sammilito Parishad will helm it for 2015-16 terms. He was a vice-president on the outgoing committee.
One selected from the Forum will be in charge of the association for the next one year. In the new committee, the numbers of directors and vice-presidents have been increased from 27 to 35 and four to seven, respectively, according to bdnews24.com.
