The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will introduce a simple two-page tax return form for the marginal taxpayers in an effort to simplify tax payment system.
The government will make the tax payment system easier in the budget for upcoming fiscal by introducing the easy form for small taxpayers, said NBR chief Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed.
NBR chairman also assured the small taxpayers that the government will ensure convenient places for them to pay their income tax.
The NBR chief disclosed this at a programme organised to accord reception to new taxpayers in the city's business hub Karwan Bazar area.
The taxpayers have requested the revenue board to introduce a simple form for those having capital below Tk 1.0 million.
Tax zone-3, Dhaka arranged the programme at city's ICAB building to handover income tax certificates to the new taxpayers of Karwan Bazar business community.
The NBR has found a total of 216 new taxpayers in the Karwan Bazar area in its ongoing door-to-door survey.
The new taxpayers have paid income tax in advance and submitted tax return later being motivated by the assurance of a hassle-free taxpayer-friendly environment for them.
Lack of knowledge on payment of income tax is one of the major reasons for a poor tax culture in the country, NBR chairman said.
The NBR will start a training programme for taxpayers, especially businessmen, from July 1 to educate them on payment of income tax, he said.
Businessmen in the Karwan Bazar market have urged the revenue board to eliminate fear-factor and reduce harassment in the tax offices. They also requested the taxmen to meet them at the time of tax return submission.
Responding to the request, NBR chairman assured them of stern action against corrupt tax officials.
NBR member Aminur Rahman, who heads the income tax policy wing, has promised the businessmen that taxmen will meet them to collect income tax before the expiry of deadline for tax return submission.
Another member Shamvu Nath, head of Tax survey and inspection, has warned that the NBR is empowered to take legal action against tax evaders for concealment of actual income.
He preferred motivational campaign to net more new taxpayers and vowed action against those unwilling to cooperate with the survey team.
