Singapore firm to install prepaid metres, deal signed

Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd signed a contract in Dhaka on Tuesday with Itron Metering Systems Singapore Pte Ltd to install 8,600 prepaid metres for its residential consumers in the city’s Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas. As per the contract, the Singaporean firm will set up the metres by March 2015 on a turnkey basis. Titas has initiated the move to install the prepaid metres under its Supply Efficiency Improvement Project to improve the customer service and check the gas pilferage and misuse. The government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are financing the project. Titas Gas Company secretary Moshtak Ahmed and Itron Metering Systems’ Senior Director (Sales) Malcolm Munro inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides at a function while Titas Managing Director Nowshad Islam and other senior officials were present, according to a news agency.
