Sinopec to drill exploratory well at Sylhet-10

Contract signed, 10 mmcfd gas expected

Chinese Sinopec International Petroleum Service Corporation will drill an exploratory well at Sylhet-10 to delineate new gas reserves in the country's southeastern region.
It will also work as a turnkey contractor for land development and civil work, supplying logistics and equipment, third-party engineering services and all other necessary jobs related to the drilling of the well under the Sylhet Gas Fields Ltd (SGFL).
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid inaugurated virtually the contract signing ceremony in this regard on Sunday.
Around 10 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of natural gas is expected to be produced from the well on completion of the drilling job.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hamid said the government would continue to put priority on exploration and production of natural gas.
He urged the officials concerned to expedite implementation of the ongoing projects and stressed on completing the drilling work even before the deadline.
Nasrul said the quantity of gas coming either from work over or exploration wells would play an important role in the development of the country.
He underscored the need for taking up realistic projects in gas exploration and production.
Additional Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Zakir Hossain, Petrobangla Chairman Nazmul Ahsan and SGFL Managing Director Mizanur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
