SIRAJGANJ, Sept 23: As it was not possible for the common people of the villages to get treatment going to towns due to financial constraints, community clinics were set up in the wards of each union in Sirajganj District in 1998. Each community clinic was built for about 6,000 people. Community Health Care Providers (CHCP), newly recruited employees in community clinics, are serving the villagers.
In the meantime, a three-month training for CHCPs was completed. CHCPs along with Health Assistants (HA) and Family Welfare Assistants (FWA) are working six days a week. Health Assistants and Family Welfare Assistants work three days in the field and another three days in community clinics.
It is learnt from office sources that in 1998, a total of 325 community clinics were built in nine upazilas of Sirajganj district. Of them 41 community clinics in Sadar Upazila, 16 in Kamarkhanda, 35 in Kazipur, 35 in Rayganj, 24 in Tarash, 62 in Ullapara, 36 in Belkuchi, 48 in Shahjadpur and 14 in Chowhali Upazila were built up. A few clinics are going to be built up and some have been devoured by the river Jamuna.
Visiting the clinics, it has been observed that community clinics remain open six days a week serving pregnant mothers, children as well as other patients with proper medicines.
Dr. Begum Laila Akhter, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Sirajganj Sadar said, "Health Inspectors, Sub Assistant Community Medical Officers (SACMO) and Medical Officers are visiting community clinics regularly to ensure Health Care Services.
