BNP leader Barrister Nazmul Huda on Sunday reiterated that the chiefs of the two main political parties should sit together to resolve the country's present political crisis, reports UNB.
"The country's two top leaders (Hasina and Khaleda) need to reach a consensus. I think they should sit across the table for breaking the present standoff," Huda told a press conference at the National Press Club.
Dismissing the allegation against him of conspiring to split the party, he said, "Why should I break the party when it gives me power and popularity?"
Claiming that he still holds the posts of president of BNP Dhaka district unit and vice-president of its central executive committee, Huda said, "My party posts were automatically restored with the withdrawal of my expulsion order."
The BNP leader said Abdul Mannan is the vice-president of the Dhaka district unit of BNP.
"He was the acting president of the unit when I was stripped of the party membership. Mannan is illegally claiming him as the president of the Dhaka district unit BNP and he is spreading falsehoods among the party leaders and activists in this regard."
According to the party constitution, he said, party posts are won through election so it can be changed only through election.
Nazmul Huda alleged that there is a tradition of lobbying in the party to get priority. "Mannan is getting priority for good connections with some party central leaders."
"However, the party cares little who is the president of the Dhaka district unit of BNP," he said.
