Six drown in three districts

Six persons drowned in separate incidents in Barishal, Netrakona and Gopalganj on Monday and Tuesday, report agencies.
In Barishal, a man and his niece died after falling into a pond in Barishal's Banaripara upazila on Monday.
The dead are Qaium Fakir, 35, a resident of Malikanda village in Saidkati union of the upazila, and his 4-year-old niece Fatema, daughter of Alauddin of Mahishapota village.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Banaripara thana SM Maksud Alam Chowdhury said Fatema, who was visiting her grandmother's house, went to the pond with her uncle Qaium around 2:00 pm on Monday.
When they did not return, their families started searching for them in the pond.
Around 5:00 pm, family members found the duo drowned in the pond and took them to the Upazila Health Complex where duty doctors declared them dead.
In Netrokona, two children have died in Netrokona's Kalmakanda after drowning in a water-filled hole on the road near their home. The two were cousins.
Police recovered the bodies from the hole at Shondhyahala village on Monday, said Abul Kalam, chief of Kalmakanda Police Station.
The children are five-year-old Tofael Mia and three-year-old Afroza Khatun.
In Gopalganj, two students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj drowned in the university lake on Tuesday.
The dead are Ania Hiya, hailed from Khulna, and Tasfia Jahan Ritu, an inhabitant of Bagerhat district. They were the second year students of the Environment Science and Disaster Management Department of the university.
