Six new private medical colleges approved

The government has approved six new private medical colleges, consisting of two medical colleges and one dental college in the capital city, and another three homeopathic medical colleges at district level, reports UNB
The newly-established medical colleges are MH Shamorita Medical College, Popular Medical College and Mendi Dental College.
The approval came at a meeting of the committee on renewal and seat distribution of the medical education institutes, presided over by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, at the Secretariat Sunday.
Apart from approval, the meeting also decided to increase some 80 seats at some six private medical colleges. Of them 25 seats in Addin Medical College, 25 seats in Community Medical College in Dhaka while some 10 seats in Prime Medical College in Rangpur, 10 in TMSS Medical College in Bogra, five in Eastwest Medical College in Uttara and five in Rangpur Community Medical College.
The approved private homeopathic medical colleges are Patuakhali Homeopathic Medical College, Barguna Homeopathic Medical College and Rahanpur Homeopathic Medical College in Chapainawabganj.
Health Secretary M Humayun Kabir, DG Health Prof Shah Monir Hossain, director of medical education activities Prof Dr Khondaker Sifaet Ullah, BMA Secretary General Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, among others, were present.
