Six people die of mysterious disease in Sylhet

Six people, including five children, died of an unknown disease, while over 100 people were affected at Lathi village in Goainghat upazila under Sylhet in three days since Saturday. The dead were identified as Hena Begum (5), Mostafa Begum (28), Ria Begum (3), Rumi Begum (6), Alkuma Begum (2) and Helena Begum (10). Besides, 14 people, having symptoms of the mysterious disease, have been admitted to hospital. A medical team from Sylhet, led by civil surgeon Dr. AZ Mahbub Ahmed, went to the upazila for investigation of the disease. Terming the disease as 'mysterious' acting Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the upazila health complex Subodh Chakravarty said, "The disease is not like fever, cholera, diarrhoea or malaria." Local people said, vomiting tendency and diarrhoea are the common symptoms of the disease. — UNB
