Sunday, 7 June 2026

Six people, including three members of a family, suffered burn injuries in two separate explosions believed to have been caused by gas leaks in different parts of the capital early on Saturday.
The victims were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, where some of them were reported to be in critical condition, reports UNB.
In Uttarkhan, three members of a family sustained burn injuries after an explosion apparently caused by a gas cylinder leak in the kitchen of their house on Saturday morning.
The injured were identified as Ali Hossain, 50, his wife Hasnahena, 40, and their daughter Akhi, 30.
They were rushed to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 7:30am.
Resident physician Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said Ali Hossain suffered burns over 100 per cent of his body, Hasnahena sustained 60 per cent burns, while Akhi received 15 per cent burn injuries.
Given the severity of their injuries, all three were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he added.
Ratul Hasan Tushar, who accompanied the victims to the hospital, said the explosion occurred while Hasnahena was working in the kitchen in the morning.
In a separate incident, three young men suffered burn injuries in an explosion apparently caused by accumulated gas from a leaking pipeline at a house in the Paikpara area of Mirpur early Saturday.
The injured were identified as Miraz, 26, Sujon, 24, and Biplab, 24.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said the explosion occurred around 4:30am when one of the victims lit a cigarette, triggering a blast.
Miraz suffered 15 per cent burn injuries, while Sujon and Biplab sustained burns to 24 per cent and 10 per cent of their bodies respectively, he said.
All three were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.
