Sixteen persons killed in separate incidents

Sixteen persons were killed and many others injured in separate incidents in different places of the country during the last two days, report agencies.
In Kushtia, two suspected activists of an outlawed party were slaughtered by a rival group at Mathpara village in Mirpur Upazila Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Miraj and Kudu of Srirampur village in the upazila, both "cadres" of Purba Banglar Communist Party (Janajuddha).
In Laxmipur, two people were killed and five others injured when a speeding night coach ran over them after hitting a standing bus at Koroitala bazar in Ramgati Upazila on the Ramgati-Laxmipur road Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as helper Tofail and labourer Hashem of the standing bus.
Five other people were injured, three critically, in the fatal accident when they were supervising the loading operation. The killer bus fled away soon after the incident.
Meanwhile, unidentified assailants stabbed a shop owner to death in Ramganj Pourashava Saturday night.
The dead was identified as Rabiul Awal, a tea stall owner of tempo stand area of the town.
In Bogra, two people were killed and 30 others injured as a bus overturned on Bogra- Chandanbaisha road at Manikdair in Sadar Upazila Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mohsin Ali of Dhora village and Doulat of Ranirpara village in Gabtoli Upazila.
In Rajbari, two people were killed by lightning in Sadar Upazila Sunday.
The dead were identified as Nizamuddin and Ashraf Ali of Joukura village of the upazila.
Local sources said the thunderbolt struck the two when they were fishing in the river Padma at about 10am during a heavy rain.
In Chittagong, a tempo driver was killed in a road mishap and a young girl committed suicide in the city.
The victims were identified as Fatema, wife of Arifur Rahman of Bayezid area in the city, and the tempo driver as Mohammad Salim Gazi, son of Alam Gazi of Barguna district.
In Rangpur, five persons, including adolescents, were killed in separate incidents at different places in the district.
The police said an unidentified youth suddenly became senseless while walking on the road at Gomostapara in the town and fell down on the road near a bridge.
Another youth Monirul Islam, son of Alal Uddin of Gangachara Upazila, allegedly committed suicide by taking poison for unknown reasons on Friday. He became seriously ill after taking poison and doctors declared him dead when he was taken to the RMCH.
Bachcha Mia of village Kishamat Sherpur of the same upazila committed suicide by taking poison following a feud with his wife on the same day.
Jharna, daughter of Sogir Ali of village Nabonidas in the same upazila, allegedly committed suicide by taking poison from unknown reason on the same day.
Another minor boy Ariful Haque of Badarganj Upazila town succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH on Friday after being seriously injured following a bloody clash between the local people on a minor issue.
