Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will play the final on Saturday (Feb 15) against the winners of 2nd semifinal between Kolkata Mohammedan SC and United Sports Club.
Bangladesh Federation cup champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club clearly dominated the first half by 2-0 goals outplaying 28 times IFA Shield champions East Bengal Club in every department, in presence of BFF President Kazi M Salahuddin in the VIP enclosure at the stadium.
This is the 2nd time that any Bangladesh team reached the final of the hundred years old traditional Indian soccer meet after Dhaka Mohammedan SC which lost the final to Kolkata East Bengal by 1-3 goals in penalty shootout after 1-1 draw in stipulated time way back in 1995.
Incidentally, this was the first defeat for the 41 times IFA Shield finalist East Bengal Club in their 7th meeting against any Bangladesh team since their first encounter in 1974, crushing Dhaka Abahani by 7-0 goals.
