Sk Selim attends his mother's last rituals

Awami League (AL) presidium member Sheikh Selim was freed on parole from 10.00 am till 5.00 pm Friday to enable him to attend the last funeral prayers and burial of his mother, reports bdnews24.com.
Deputy Inspector General (prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui said the former minister was taken from the jail to his Banani home at 10:17 am.
AL chief and Selim's cousin Sheikh Hasina reached his home at 10:38 am.
Workers' Party president Rashed Khan Mennon, AL presidium member Matia Chowdhury and AL joint secretary Mukul Bose were present there to give solace to the bereaved members of the family.
Selim's Banani home is secured by the police, with no one except the family relations and political leaders being allowed in.
Selim was taken back to jail at 5.00 pm after he had observed the last rites of his deceased mother, said Siddiqui.
The DIG (prisons) said one is not allowed to travel outside the metropolitan area on parole.
Earlier, Selim was taken back to jail after more than two hours on parole to see his deceased mother Thursday.
Selim's family members waved him a tearful goodnight from the balcony of their house at Banani as a prison van sped away taking him back to the Dhaka Central Jail.
Selim waved them back.
Asia Khatun, also elder sister of independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and aunt of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, died of old-age complications at the age of 90 at ZH Sikder Medical College Hospital at Gulshan Thursday.
