Skilled human resources 'essential for national development'

Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) President Mir Nasir Hossain said the world is "open to all" and the country needs skilled and efficient people to take advantage of the global economy and to accelerate economic growth.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the orientation ceremony for the students of post-graduate programmes, spring semester 2007 of Nor-thern University Bangladesh (NUB) at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the city Monday.
Daily Amader Shomoy Editor-cum-Publisher Md Nayeemul Islam Khan was present as the special guest of the function chaired by NUB Vice Chancellor M Shamsul Haque.
Among others, Business Faculty Dean M Azhar-ud-Din, Arts and Humanities Faculty Dean Sadruddin Ahmed and Law Faculty Dean AWM Abdul Huq, HRD Director Md Lutfor Rahman, Estate Development, Training and Placement Director Md Borhan Uddin, Registrar Md Solaiman Miah and heads of departments spoke on the occasion.
Md Nayeemul Islam said 'Private Universities are playing a pioneering role to bring the light of higher education to the nation. He has given examples of Indian graduates who are active worldwide as business executives. This, he said, was due to investment in higher education by the Indian government.
NUB Vice Chancellor said the Northern University has been maintaining an international standard with modern facilities to provide quality education in the country. He also termed the private universities as "innovation" in the social sector and said all innovations help raise the standard of living of the people. About eight thousand and five hundred students have enrolled at the university, he added.
