Skilled RMG workers get certificates today

Sunday, 6 October 2013

FE Report The Gazipur Technical School and College (TSC) will issue certificates today (Sunday) to its first batch of students on sewing machine operation and induct the second batch in a bid to create efficient manpower in the country's RMG (readymade garment) sector, officials said. The move to train the RMG workers was initiated under a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnership by the Far East Knitting, Gazipur TSC, CARE Bangladesh, IDLC, Interfab Shirt Manufacturing, TRZ Group and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Asif Moyeen, Managing Director of the Far East Knitting, said his company and the IDLC are bearing the cost of the training programme. "The workers of the first batch have already got jobs in different factories including the Far East Knitting. The second batch will be inducted Sunday along with issuing certificates to the first one," Mr. Moyeen said. He said their objective is to create job opportunities for workers of North Bengal considering lack of job opportunities in the neglected region. "The training of the first batch started with job assurance. We want to train several batches with the assurance that the Far East will employ them," said Mr Moyeen. According to him, the first batch workers will get minimum wage of Tk 5,000 at the initial stage. The model used by the Gazipur TSC was developed by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Reform Project, an initiative of the government of Bangladesh, funded by the European Union and executed with the support of the ILO.
