Slaying of a medical student points to moral bankruptcy

Reading the murder story of a student (suspected as a thief) of Bangladesh Medical College, Ehtesham Al Ziad, 22, I could not help shedding tears. Such an immature death of a promising student! Killing someone for such a small crime (stealing mobile set) by the students of Dhaka University is unacceptable and unexpected.

Ehtesham was beaten barbarically and inhumanely in the premises of SM hall and was later kept captive in the cycle room for several hours. He also jumped from the first floor to the ground floor to escape from the agitating students. But he was caught and extremely beaten by the mob. Two hundred students gathered to see the beating game but none come forward to save him. What a rueful and shocking fact! This fact indicates the extreme dearth of moral courage and values among the students.

We must learn lessons from this.

This incident made a mournful mark in my mind. I think that a university student is mature enough to understand what to do or not do. They should not have been agitated to such an extent .

It is clear that police played a feeble and silent role that is condemnable. It is known that university authority remains reluctant to take a proper initiative. Sources said that it may have a political implication.

To avoid this sort of incidents university students need to be morally developed. Parents should teach children how to improve moralities and values.
