Sluice gates will be repaired, says minister

KHULNA, Nov 6: Steps have been taken to repair all the closures and sluice gates at Aila affected area. Tk.30.53 million has been allocated for 94 meters closure and 316 meter cross dam at Chakbara area under Gabura union of Shamnagor Upazilla in Satkhira district and the construction work will be completed by January-29, 2011, said Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen while he was inaugurating the construction work of a closure at Chakbara area under polder No.-15 as the chief guest recently arranged by Water Development Board (Division-1).
He also called upon the people to make embankment and afforest for safe environment and protect river erosion and said that all necessary measures will be taken for stopping saline water from entering into the locality. Mony allocated for making houses according to list declared by Prime Minister will be distributed within one month.
The function was presided over by chief Engineer of Water Development Board Southwestern region (Faridpur) Abdul Mannan. The function was attended among others by the State minister for water recourses Mahbubar Rahman, ADC (General) Mukesh Chandra Biswas.
