Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) and Woman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) jointly organised a seminar at the Chamber premises Tuesday for the WCCI members to make them aware about stock market investment and facilitate smooth share trading for them.
WCCI President Monwara Hakim Ali inaugurated the occasion as the chief guest, while CSE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) AB Siddique was present as the special guest.
Hakim Ali in her address said, "The CSE has taken a pragmatic approach for women investors by organising a seminar on share trading. The women investors will now be able to invest in the bourses beside their regular household works."
She said the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a prime watchdog body of the stock market, should play an effective role for the sake of the small investors.
The stock markets in our neighboring countries, like India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, are encompassed by a huge number of female investors. Bangladesh is also moving in that direction. Now our objective should be to make the potential women investors aware while they invest their small savings, she also said.
The WCCI president said the financial institutions should come forward for the development of women entrepreneurship by giving credit at tolerable interest rates.
The CSE CEO, in his speech said, "CSE, as a facilitator, has brought futuristic ITS (internet trading service) infrastructure for the general investors. The women investors can route their orders from their home or offices, just if they have a computer with e-mail connection. By using the facility they can be self-dependant and boost their income, and eventually be able to participate in their household expenses."
He said our capital market eyes a good potentiality in near future. A number of government stakes and multinational companies including leading cell phone providers are expected to come to the market soon, and thereby the market capitalisation will be increased further.
