FE Report
An SME financing fair will be held in the capital next month with a view to help the small and medium enterprises promote their products and convince the financial institutions to invest more in the sector.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) will organise the three-day fair to be held in the end of October.
This was disclosed when DCCI president Zafar Osman called on Chairman of SME Foundation (SMEF) Aftab Ul Islam at latter's office in the city to discuss several joint SME development activities with the state-owned initiative.
During the meeting, Mr. Osman presented a concept paper highlighting activities of the three-day SME financing fair.
He also emphasised the need for SME banking in the country for resolving all financing problems the micro entrepreneurs face.
SME Foundation chairman echoed the same. "SME banking should be introduced at the branches of state-owned Agrani, Janata and Sonali banks as such wings in all other banks are not adequate to meet the financing need of micro entrepreneurs," said Aftab Ul Islam.
He welcomed the proposal of DCCI for organising fair. He advised the chamber leaders for signing a memorandum of understanding with the foundation to initiate several DCCI-SMEF joint programmes.
Safina Rahman, former director of DCCI, also took part in the discussion and sought cooperation from SMEF to facilitate the chamber in establishing a SME booth at the Airport where SME products will be exhibited.
SMEF acting managing director Dr Momtajuddin Ahmed and DCCI secretary AHM Nurul Islam and additional secretary Ferdaus Ara Begum were also present on the occasion.
