SME Help Centre launched in port city

CHITTAGONG, July 23 (BSS): Speakers at a function here Sunday said that economic development of the country is not possible without active participation of women.
They said small and medium industries could play a significant role in alleviating poverty as well as making the women self-reliant.
The speakers said this while addressing the inaugural function of the SME Help Line Centre, the first of its kind in the country, at Hotel Agrabad in the city.
Small Medium Enterprise Sector Development Project (SMESDP), the Ministry of Industries and the Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CWCCI) jointly organised the function.
Additional Secretary of Industry Ministry Ayub Meah, who is also the Director of SMESDP, attended the meeting as chief guest, while Monwara Hakim Ali, President of CWCCI, chaired the function.
It was addressed, among others, by Earshadullah, Director of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Runu Siddique, noted Writer, Nasir Uddin, Director of CCCI, Majharul Haque Shah, Director of CCCI, Engineer Harun Ur Rashid, Regional director of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries, Manoj Kumar Barua, Director of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Chittagong, and Khaleda Awal, Vice-President of CWCCI.
Addressing the function, Ayub Meah said the government had launched the program four years ago to provide and facilitate the SMEs in technology, financing, human resources, business creation, preparation of business plans and other services.
He said that 32 more help centers would be set up in 25 districts in the country. Of them, three will be established in the port city, he added.
