Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a dominant role in boosting a country's economy. There is no doubt that in our country there are many SMEs operating in a scattered way. They need to be organised in a right direction to get the maximum benefit from them. Bangladesh people have potentials to promote these ventures, but they lack experience in promotion of the business and marketing of products.
The entrepreneurs do not have modern technology and proper knowledge to run their business profitably. We must ensure that the ventures adopt the latest technology to roll out quality products and marketing strategy to promote their business.
The SME entrepreneurs might not have proper knowledge about these technology, but the government and non-governmental institutions should have a role in making them aware of the issues and help them in introduce their own web sites, which will make their products familiar and popular.
The government can set up an IT department to work with SMEs, and the SME Foundation can also assist in this regard. Apart from accepting the technology as a marketing tool, our SMEs should also make sure that they follow some certain steps to let the people know about the business. Our SMEs do not get proper information about how to market products. The government should train people who are involved in SMEs.
The entrepreneurs do not know how to penetrate foreign market. All these marketing strategies are essential to spread the business.
For business today, it is extremely important to do the networking. This networking will help businesses reach the consumers. It is not easy to understand the dynamic nature of networking. Networks will help SMEs reveal themselves to new opportunities, acquire knowledge, learn from experiences and benefit from the pooled resources. Business owners can position themselves in a network or develop network strategies if they understand how to use networking in a realistic way. SME owners can develop their own networking ability and use this skill as a proactive business development tool.
Networking activity should be carried out primarily by the SME owners and should include his/her personal contacts and other business related information. In a country like Bangladesh the government and non-governmental organisations should also help the SMEs make this networking effective for them.
It is conceivable that SME owners in Bangladesh do not have knowledge to expedite these marketing strategies. It is necessary to initiate all these efforts in providing SME owners a practical knowledge and better understanding of the modern marketing strategy for promotion of their business.
