Smuggled goods worth Tk 27.7m seized in Comilla in Mar

Government agencies seized smuggled goods worth over Tk 27.7 million during different anti-smuggling drives in Comilla district in March this year and arrested 173 people in this connection. One revolver, two pistols and five bullets were recovered during the drives. The monthly discussion meeting of the district law and order committee was apprised of the details in this regard. According to the minutes of the meeting, smuggled goods worth over Tk 2,77,41,291 were seized during the drives conducted by the district Task Force, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Narcotics Control Department, Customs Excise and VAT, Customs Intelligence Department and Forest Department. The goods were far less than those seized in the month of February when smuggled goods worth Tk 5,88,89,113 were seized in the district. Forest Department seized least quantity of smuggled goods. In the month of March, the district Task Force conducted 17 drives, Rab 30, BGB 1984, Narcotics Control Department 80 and the Forest Department 35. A total of 2,471 anti-smuggling drives were conducted last month. In March, executive magistrates conducted 99 drives in which they realised Tk 3,48,700 from 234 people. Mobile courts conduced by them awarded 18 people different jail terms and filed 209 cases, according to UNB.
