Smuggled Indian sarees seized

KHULNA, May 5: Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) members seized huge quantity of various kinds of Indian saree worth about Tk. 40 million from Batiaghata Upazila ferry ghat area Wednesday. BGB -7 (Nildumur) Commander Major Hasibul Haq said that on a secret information the members of BGB -7 were waiting at Mondakalir Char of Sundarbans area from May 1 to May 3. But the smugglers changed their route after sensing the presence of BGB members. Later BGB members seized the smuggling goods while they were loading them in a truck from Batiaghata ferry ghat, but the smugglers managed to escape. Later the recovered sarees were handed over to the customs authority after making a seizer list in presence of Executive Magistrate of Khulna Alimun Razib at BGB headquarters Khulna. Tea recovered Another report adds: BGB members seized 4 metric tonnes of Indian tea worth about Tk. 1 million from the Putikhali border area of Benapole while it was smuggling from India Wednesday. BGB-22 Putkhali camp commander said that on secret information BGB members raided the Putkhali Poshchimpara border area and recovered the Indian tea but the traffickers managed to escape sensing the presence of BGB members. The recovered tea deposited to the local customs warehouse. Source said this low quality tea is being smuggled for a long time and being supplied to different areas of our country from Benapole. The experts said the quality of the smuggled tea is very low and it is harmful for human body. Student stabbed to death Another message says: A college student was stabbed to death by the miscreants at town Mohirbari Khalpar of the Tootpara area Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Milon Shaikh (22), son of Monir Shaikh. Police and local source said that Milon Shaikh was a 2nd year student of commerce department of the Hazi Malek College. An identified terrorist and his associates stabbed him over previous enmity Wednesday evening. After hearing his hue and cry, local people rushed him to the Khulna Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead. A case was filed in this connection.
