'Smuggler' arrested with 11 gold bars in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, June 24 (UNB): Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a suspected smuggler with 11 gold bars worth Tk 7.0 million in Darshana upazila of Chuadanga district along Sultanpur border with India on Saturday.
The arrestee is Tariqul Islam (32), son of Shukkur Ali of Parkrisnapur village under the upazila.
Lt Colonel Sayeed Mohammad Jahidur Rahman, commander of the BGB-6, said they conducted a drive in Sultanpur after being informed that a consignment of gold would be smuggled to India through the border in the morning.
