Smuggler shot dead, 2 cops injured in Satkhira

An alleged drug smuggler was killed in a clash with detectives at Shikri border point at Satkhira Sadar Upazila on Wednesday. The dead is Monir Hossain, 27, son of Rajab Ali, a resident of Kaliani Chhoighoria village of the Upazila. Police sources said being informed, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police challenged a gang of drug smugglers at Gajalia Beel (water body) at the border point and recovered some bottles of Phensidyl syrup on Tuesday at about 9:30pm. As sequel of the incident, the smugglers attacked assistant sub-inspector Aminul Islam and Constable Abdur Rahim and chopped them at dead of night, leaving them injured. At that time, the law enforcers opened fire on the miscreants, leaving Monir injured. Later, police arrested him and took him to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him dead. Critically injured Constable Abdur Rahim was taken to Khulna Medical College, according to UNB.
