Snatcher killed in gunfight with police in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 16: A snatcher was killed in a gunfight with police at Kodla area under Terokhada Upazila of the district on Wednesday night at about 10 am. Four police personnel including officer-in-charge were injured during the gunfight. Police also recovered 3 firearms and bullets from the spot.   
The deceased was identified as Babul, son of Abdul Halim of village Filfarnagor of the Upazila. He was an accused in a docoity case and several cases were filed against him in different thanas in this area.  
Police said that thana police arrested three snatchers with the help of local people for snatching money from two betel leaf traders of Schadaha area of the Upazila Wednesday evening.  The snatchers are Babul, son of Abdul Halim, Shagor Sheikh, son of Sheikh Shahidul Islam of Terokhada area and Shanto son of Nur Islam of Natunrasta crossing of Daulatpur, Khulna area.
Police said that the associates of the snatchers fired on police while they went to Kodala area with the arrestees for recovering firearms. Police also fired on them and Babul received bullet injury while he was trying to escape from the place. Police recovered three pipe guns and 10 rounds bullets from the spot. Later, injured Babul was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead.
