Speakers at a function organised to take a vow to curb dowry and to honour families with one child have stressed the need for social movement against dowry and smoking to wipe out the vices from society.
Save the Rural Development Association (SARDA) organised the function at the Dhaka University (DU) Senate Bhaban Tuesday.
"Dowry and smoking are social diseases that could be curbed by united efforts," Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said while addressing the function as the chief guest.
He mentioned that print and electronic media regularly publish and telecast news on dreadful effects of dowry and smoking but some people do not pay any heed to such news.
