Social movement to resist rights violation stressed

RAJSHAHI, Apr 4 (BSS): Speakers at a daylong views-sharing meeting here today unequivocally called for forging a social movement against all sorts of human rights violation for institutionalising democracy. In this regard, they said the government or any single organisation alone is not capable of doing it as the human rights violation situation has become a concern for all. Human Rights Defenders' Forum (HRDF) and Ain O Shalish Kendra (ASK) jointly organised the meeting styled "Present Human Rights Situation and Our Role" at Parjatan Motel conference hall. Former adviser to caretaker government and ASK Executive Director Advocate Sultana Kamal, addressed the discussion as the main speaker. She said the rate of human rights violation has gradually been increasing in the country due to various reasons like corruption, poverty and illiteracy. She called for enactment of the proposed Women Development Policy as early as possible and its full enforcement for ensuring development of the country's womenfolk and freeing them from all sorts of discrimination and violation of human rights. In this regard, she said stern actions must be taken against those who are out to mislead the people in the name of region. In his address of welcome, ASK Director Nur Khan Liton gave an overview of the HRDF and ASK activities.
