Social science research policy at final stage: Finance adviser

Finance and Planning Adviser AB Mirza M Azizul Islam said Wednesday the national policy on social science research would be finalised soon to bring transparency in the research process, reports BSS.

"Draft of the policy has already been finalised and it is now waiting for approval of the advisory council," he said while inaugurating a seminar as the chief guest at the Planning Commission at Sher-e-Bangla Nogor in the city.

Social Science Research Council of the Planning Commission organised the two-day seminar on dissemination of the findings of its research work, which were carried out on various social issues in the last two fiscal years.

Presided over by secretary to Planning Division Zafor Ahmed Chowdhury, the inaugural session was also addressed by Director of Social Science Research Council Mohammad Abdur Rahim Khan, Joint Secretary of Planning Division Kabir Uddin Ahmed and Member of University Grants Commission AHM Zehadul Karim.

Urging the social scientists to perform their noble duties with sincerity, the adviser called for carrying out more researches on existing social problems of the country.

"In the context of huge accumulated social problems in the country, it is not possible for the government to solve all alone," he said, adding, "All need to come forward with a national consensus."

The finance adviser said the topics of the researches, which were carried out under the supervision of the Planning Commission in the last two years, are very time befitting and focused on current issues.

He expressed the hope that the findings of the researches would be useful during policy making in the future as well as achieving the millennium development goals (MDGs).
