Soderling beats Roddick in Lyon

Sunday, 26 October 2008

Robin Soderling needed 20 aces and two tie-breaks to beat top seed Andy Roddick 7-6 7-6 and reach the last four in Lyon Friday, BBC reports.
The Swedish seventh seed, who won the event in 2004, won both tie-breaks 7-5 to set up a semi-final against Gilles Simon for a place in the final.
It was Soderling's second win over former world number Roddick this year.
Roddick is sixth in the ATP Race standings but this defeat dented his chances of making next month's season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai, featuring the world's top eight players.
