FE Report
A five-day long 'SoftExpo 2010' will kick off on February 10 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre to promote the country's software and IT-enabled services (ITES) industry.
"The theme of the exposition is 'Digital Bangladesh in Action' and it will pave the way to meet the government's vision," said President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) Habibullah N Karim while speaking at a press conference at a city hotel Sunday.
The BASIS president said the exposition would help expand the software and the IT sector by raising awareness among people and export software and ITES products.
He said, "At least 15,000 IT professionals are involved in around 500 software and ITES industries,"
"We export software and IT products to 30 countries including Denmark, UK, USA and Japan."
The exposition will showcase the products and talents of the local software and ITES industries and it will work as a matchmaker and create new business opportunities related to ICT in local and foreign markets.
BASIS will organise the exposition to create a platform of interaction between different groups including software providers, buyers, professionals, media, policy makers, development partners, students as well as a wide range of people across the country.
It is expected that around 200 local and foreign firms will take part in the expo and 500,000 visitors will visit it, the organisers said.
They said the delegation of Japan, Denmark, UK and USA will take part in the exposition and the local software and IT companies will discuss the match making issue of business with the foreign delegation which will play a big role to boost up export of IT-related products.
Besides, there will be seminar, workshop, round table conference and IT talent hunt programmes.
About 100 stalls and pavilions are likely to be set up in the fair which will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm everyday. The entry fee has not yet been fixed but it is learnt that there will be no entry fee for students.
Students of computer science and technology can register their names to participate in the talent hunt programme online at softexpo.com.bd. Students, however, have to submit their proposals by December 28 next.
Best IT Use Award 2009 will be given on the occasion and an "IT Job Fair" will also be held on the occasion.
