Sohel Rana denied bail
Friday, 25 July 2014
The High Court (HC) has denied bail to ‘Rana Plaza’ owner Sohel Rana, accused of violating the building code. Rana’s lawyers had sought bail from Justice Nizamul Haque and Justice Jahangir Hossain's bench in the Anti Corruption Commission's (ACC) case against the Savar’s multi-storey commercial complex owner. The bail plea was, however, rejected. Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder was present on behalf of the state. ACC filed the case of building code violation following the 9-storey Rana Plaza collapse that killed over a thousand garment workers. A charge-sheet, filed on Jul 17, accused 18 people including Rana. It holds Rana is solely responsible for the irregularities and corruption in the construction of the building that collapsed on April 24 last year, according to bdnews24.com.
