Some 767,591 expats, individuals register for postal voting

EC extends sign-up deadline until Dec 31

A total of 767,591 individuals have registered with the 'Postal Vote BD' system to exercise their voting rights remotely for Bangladesh's parliamentary election scheduled for 12 February 2026.
Of the total, 5,42,942 are Bangladeshis living abroad (NRB) while the remaining 2,24,649 are individuals living in Bangladesh, especially those who will be unable to visit their respective constituencies on election day due to having electoral duties.
The figures were revealed through the 'Out of Country Voting' web portal of the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) on Friday evening. Of the total registrations, 737,146 voters have already got approval, while 30,445 applications still remain pending for approval.
Significant numbers of registrations came from Bangladeshi citizens living abroad, especially from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
The highest number of overseas registrations came from Saudi Arabia with 158,164 voters signing up under the Postal Vote BD system, followed by Qatar with 58,439, Oman 44,510 and Malaysia 42,677, and the United Arab Emirates with 30,799.
The EC earlier introduced the Postal Vote BD system to allow eligible voters living abroad, as well as certain voters at home, to participate in the national election through postal ballots.
