Some changes in Emergency Powers Rules in the offing

Friday, 7 September 2007

Law and Information Adviser Mainul Hosein Thursday said there would be some changes in the Emergency Powers Rules, but would not elaborate, reports UNB.
"Until the changes are brought about, nothing could be stated," he told reporters while entering his office in the morning.
The adviser, however, said some changes are taking place to boost economic activities and steps were taken to allay fears of businessmen. He hinted that rules might be relaxed in some other areas.
Asked whether new cases of corruption will not be pursued, the law adviser said it would be looked into by the Anti-Corruption Commission. "We cannot take all responsibilities… existing law will determine who will get relief or not."
Replying to another question, he said the government has not yet decided how far the indoor politics would be allowed.
